Constricted breast deformity
Many patients presenting for breast augmentation are also concerned with the shape of their breasts. A common concern is constricted breast deformity or tuberous breast deformity. Constricted or tuberous breast deformity may include a high tight appearing inframammary fold, a flat appearing lower pole of the breast, and enlarged puffy areola with wide spacing between the breasts. The deformity may be mild, moderate, or severe.
Treatment
The treatment for constricted breast deformity depends on the severity of the deformity. Frequently, treatment includes breast augmentation with a breast implant. The breast implant can help improve the size and shape of the constricted breast. Additional steps may be taken to release the constricted breast tissue in the lower pole of the breast. In addition, adjustments may be made to the inframammary fold position. The areola may also be managed with techniques to reduce the size and prominence of the areola.
